Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has released a confirmed calendar for the 2012 world championship. The addition of the United States Grand Prix makes for a 21-race season - one more round than in 2011 and the longest in F1 history.

Fernando Alonso to stay at Ferrari until 2016
Fernando Alonso will remain at Ferrari until at least the end of 2016 after renewing his technical and racing deal, it was revealed on Thursday. Alonso joined the Italian team in 2010 after stints with Renault and McLaren, and over his 23 Grands Prix with Ferrari has taken five wins, 11 podiums, two pole positions and 293 world championship points.
New pit and paddock complex unveiled at Silverstone
Silverstone officially unveiled its new pit and paddock complex at a glamorous event on Tuesday. His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, who is also president in chief of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), formally opened the track’s new ‘Wing’ facility.

The Lotus Formula One team announced on Wednesday that they have acquired Caterham Cars, the British sportscar makers most famous for their lightweight Seven machine, which evolved from the Colin Chapman-designed Lotus Seven of the 1950s.
