The former champion was gaining ground on the front-runners prior to Monte Carlo, as Renault recovered from its shaky start to the season to get back into top-six contention in Spain and Turkey.
But a wild race on the wet Monaco streets left Alonso outside the points – a blip he is determined to make up for this weekend.
"We were not able to achieve what could have been possible in normal conditions, and so it was disappointing," Alonso said.
"But now I am looking forward to getting back in the car this weekend to see what we can achieve in Montreal, which is a very different circuit."
He is confident that Renault will regain its pre-Monaco form in Canada, as it had been closing on BMW prior to the last race.
"We have made some progress recently and we are trying to continue moving forward as much as possible," said Alonso.
"Since the Spanish Grand Prix we seem to have been on the pace, and so should be in Canada as well, and we will do everything to try and make sure that we are."
Renault's engineering director Pat Symonds said Alonso's mood had been very upbeat since the team's pre-Barcelona breakthrough.
"In the early part of the season he was getting a little bit frustrated, but we made a huge leap forward in performance for Barcelona and I think the car did become more enjoyable to drive," said Symonds.
"So, yes, I think it is fair to say that he is enjoying his racing, and I think that he has faith that the car will continue to improve."
