BMW Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi has been handed a five-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix by the Budapest race stewards, after he failed to enter the FIA garage to have his car weighed during qualifying on Saturday.
During practice and qualifying cars are called in at random to be weighed to ensure that they comply with minimum weight requirements (620kg).
"I obviously went past a red light in the pit lane and missed going to the FIA scales," Kobayashi explained following Saturday’s qualifying session at the Hungaroring. “I just didn't see it."
The Japanese driver drops from 18th to 23rd on the Hungary grid, with Virgin’s Timo Glock, Lotus team mates Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli, Virgin's Lucas di Grassi and HRT’s Bruno Senna all moving up a place as a result.
