Buemi confirmed as Red Bull test and reserve driver

At the same time as launching their new challenger in Jerez on Wednesday, Red Bull announced the appointment of Sebastien Buemi as the teams test and reserve driver for 2008. Buemi, who will combine his Formula One role with a race seat in GP2, will work alongside the teams race drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber.

EU recognises FIAs environmental role

Formula One racings governing body, the FIA, has welcomed a European Parliament report recognising the potential role the sport can play in accelerating the adoption of green technologies in the consumer car market.
The ‘CARS 21 report, on the European automotive sector, acknowledges the FIAs leading role in encouraging the development and use of new environmental technologies and calls on it to continue its work to promote road-relevant research in motor sport.

Home at last - Q&A with Renaults Fernando Alonso

Tuesday at Jerez marked something of a homecoming for Fernando Alonso, as he returned to a Renault cockpit for the first time since he won the 2006 world title with the team. After the rollercoaster year that was his ‘07 season with McLaren, the Spaniard is back in familiar surroundings.
Of course, plenty has changed - a new team mate in Nelson Piquet Jr, a new car on the way, and the removal of driver aids. Fresh from his first day back at the office, Alonso considers the challenge that lies ahead…

Jerez day one - Raikkonen sets the pace in Spain

Reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen got his 2008 season off to a flying start on Monday to top the timesheets during the first day of testing at Jerez. Raikkonen lapped the Spanish circuit in 1m 19.845s, beating Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa by just under three-tenths of a second.
Despite a wet start to the session, the Finn managed to cover 59 laps during the day in the Italian teams new challenger, the F2008. Massa also enjoyed a trouble-free day, covering 43 laps. Both will continue to drive on Tuesday.

Kubica debuts the F1.08 in Valencia - updated

Just 24 hours after its launch in Munich, BMW Saubers 2008 car enjoyed a successful test debut on Tuesday in Valencia. Robert Kubica, who was charged with taking the F1.08 out for the first time, pulled out of the garage shortly after midday.
“It was a good start,” said the Polish driver. “I've only driven a few laps so far, but I have the impression that everything is heading in the right direction. The car feels more stable than its predecessor and it builds up more grip. I'm looking forward to the test days to come.”

F1.08 a ‘radical evolution, says Rampf

The sound basis provided by last years F1.07 has allowed BMW Saubers engineers to channel their energies into innovative developments for this years F1.08. Thats according to technical director Willy Rampf, who was on hand to explain the changes to the teams new car as it was unveiled in Munich on Monday.

New BMW Sauber ‘a big step forward

BMW Sauber have presented the car they hope will finally put them on the top step of the podium this year, following their strong 2007 showing. The wraps came off the F1.08 at BMWs Munich facility on Monday, with team principal Mario Theissen declaring it a major advance on its predecessor.
“It includes everything we have learnt and experienced in the first two years - it will be a big step forward again,” said Theissen, who led BMW Sauber to second place in the 2007 constructors championship.

BMW Sauber in no rush to fill testing role

With former reserve driver Timo Glock in action for Toyota in Jerez on Monday, BMW Sauber have declared they are to take their time in deciding on his replacement. Glock left his position with the squad in November last year after being offered a race drive with BMW's Japanese rivals.
In December BMW Sauber assessed two young drivers, Marko Asmer and Javier Villa, and at the launch of the teams 2008 challenger in Munich on Monday, BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen revealed that Estonian Asmer, the reigning British Formula Three champion, will test again for the squad in Valencia, Spain this week.

2008 testing gets underway in Spain

With less than two months to go before the season opener in Melbourne, Formula One testing resumed in earnest on Monday with the start of the first multi-team session at Jerez in Spain. Ten of the 11 teams are expected to attend, as development work for 2008 takes centre stage.
Following the successful launch of their new challenger last week, Ferrari are scheduled to start work on Monday, with both world champion Kimi Raikkonen and team mate Felipe Massa expected to get behind the wheel of the F2008.

New Williams to appear next week

Williams 2008 car is to make its track debut next week, the team have confirmed. The FW30 will get its first outing at Spains Valencia circuit on Tuesday, 22 January.
Williams have announced no plans for an official launch. Instead, the press will get their first glimpse of the Toyota-powered challenger as it participates in regular testing alongside rivals.
For its debut, the FW30 will feature the second of a series of six special winter liveries designed to commemorate Williams 30th year in Formula One racing. Its race colours will be revealed in time for the Australian Grand Prix on March 16.
Renault's 2008 machine, the R28, is also expected to make its first track appearance at Valencia next Tuesday.

Klien to look outside of F1 for 2008

Christian Klien says he will now focus on securing a race drive outside of Formula 1 for next season after he lost out to Giancarlo Fisichella and Tonio Liuzzi in the race to seal a place at Force India.
The Austrian left his third driver role at Honda to go in search of a race seat for 2008 and was one of seven drivers to take part in a shootout for the second Force India seat.

Schumi handed Ferrari development role

ichael Schumacher has revealed that he and Ferrari have finally agreed a definitive post-retirement role for him – with the German to help with the development of the team's F1 cars.
The seven-time world champion was handed the loosely-deified role of “super assistant” following his retirement from racing at the end of 2006 and attended several grands prix in that capacity last season.
