F1 JEREZ TESTING 2008 14/01/08

Another solid day for new Renault

Renault was on track again today in Valencia, Spain to continue developing the new R28. The team benefited from near-perfect track conditions with the sun shining and spring temperatures throughout the afternoon. Fernando Alonso was again at the wheel of the R28-01, and continued with set-up work this morning, varying the balance of the car and evaluating the changes. He then concentrated on completing some long runs in the afternoon to test the reliability of different aspects of the car and to gather as much data as possible.

Alonso debuts the Renault R28 in Spain

With the early fog finally beginning to clear, Renaults 2008 challenger took to the track at Valencia late on Monday morning. Behind the wheel was the man charged with putting the team back on the podium this season, former world champion Fernando Alonso.
There was a media scrum around the Renault garage as Alonso and the R28 emerged for the first time, the car sporting a rather unusual-looking front wing with a pronounced spoon-shaped lower profile below its nose.

Foggy Valencia awaits Williams and Renault debuts

With the 2008 season drawing ever closer, this week will see the teams step up their preparations during testing at Valencia. Renault and Williams will have most to prove as both squads are expected to give their new challengers their track debuts at the Spanish circuit on Monday.
Former world champion Fernando Alonso has been charged with giving Renaults R28 its first run. After his successful test in the older R27 at last weeks Jerez session, Alonso is keen to get his first taste of the 2008 car, but has been delayed by the foggy conditions at the Spanish track on Monday morning.

BMW Sauber wrap up exclusive Valencia test

With race drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica in attendance, BMW Sauber concluded their three-day private test at Valencia on Friday. Sunny and dry conditions throughout saw the duo enjoy a productive session at the Spanish circuit.
Heidfeld took charge of the teams new F1.08 for a second day. Despite a mechanical problem with the cars power steering, the German covered 91 laps in total as he continued carrying out set-up work. His team mate Kubica, meanwhile, drove the older F1.07B and completed 42 laps.

Honda to test RA108, Kogure this week

Honda have announced plans to kick start their 2008 campaign in style at this week's multi-team test in Valencia. Not only will the media get a sneak preview of the new RA108, ahead of its official launch later this month, but the squad also plan to test Japanese hopeful Takashi Kogure at the Spanish circuit.
Kogure will have the opportunity to drive the older RA107 during Wednesday and Thursday, as part of the Formula Dream Project through which Honda supports promising young drivers. The 27 year-old races for the company in the Formula Nippon and Super GT Series in Japan.

New Williams breaks cover in Spain

In damp and foggy conditions, Williams 2008 challenger made its track debut on Monday morning. Test driver Nico Hulkenberg was the man behind the wheel as the FW30 emerged from the garage at Spains Valencia circuit.
Poor visibility, however, meant that Hulkenberg completed just one installation lap in the Toyota-powered car before the session had to be suspended. The team are hoping to be able to continue work later in the day, assuming conditions improve.

Continuity key to new Williams, says Michael

With the competitive and reliable platform of last years FW29 to work with, the new Williams challenger is as much a product of stability as it is innovation. Thats according to the teams technical director Sam Michael, who was on hand as test driver Nico Hulkenberg gave the FW30 its track debut on Monday in Valencia, Spain.
“With four years of regulation stability, we have a good basis to be progressive about the development of this seasons car,” explained Michael. “With a good reliability record last year, we have been able to build on this quality while also turning some of our attention to clear performance objectives.”

Hamilton commits to McLaren until 2012

Just a week after its launch, Toyotas new TF108 is already making headlines for all the right reasons, with new race driver Timo Glock taking the Japanese team to the top of the timesheets in their 2008 challenger during testing in Jerez on Wednesday.
Despite unsettled conditions, Glock finished the day with a best time of 1m 19.779 to beat the 2008 cars of both Ferrari and McLaren around the Spanish track and give the Japanese team their first reason to be cheerful after a difficult 2007.
